Hi Eileen and thanks for the welcome. I had actually signed up several months ago, but my email address was changed and I couldn't get back in the site without re-signing up. Anyway good to be back. I'm not very computer savvy, so I will be exploring and inputting at a slow pace.
Noticed the comment about the Nevele below. If Joan was referring to the dance wkend, it has been scheduled for Oct 9th-11. It will be housed in the old Fallsview Resort which is next door to the old Nevele and was taken over by the Nevele before they were both sold to Honers. Supposedly the Fallsview has undergone major renovation.

Hi Eileen. I live in The Netherlands. It looks like this site is about the Northeast, which is indeed where I come from. Wish I'd been in The Catskills this week!
I started step dancing about 3 years ago and we do a lot of ceili for competition (and fun) as well. i've done a little set but have taught many other kinds of contra which is part of the same tradition. When I was in Dublin in February I went to an evening of set dancing in South Dublin where there's an open-to-all crowded evening once a week. It was a lot of fun, of course, so I thought I'd try introducing it over here. This is an area of small towns and cities and it's hard to get Irish dancing growing here. I've had several students for step but students only trickle in, also in the group i dance in. I thought if you want a group to have fun and bond there's nothing like the contras. There is no set dance dance group in the south Netherlands. I don't know if it will work to have it once a week on the weekend. Furthermore, I'd like to use it as part of a broader introduction to Irish Dance.

I attended Cynthia Neale's book launch party for Hope in New York City at The Burren (Somverville, MA) on Saturday

It was a fun gathering of friends, family, and supporters to celebrate the publication of Cynthia's sequel to The Irish Dresser. Cynthia, who loves Irish dancing, celebrated with a ceili and one of her famous cakes.

Do you know about an event that other set dancers might be interested in? Let others know about it by listing it on the Events Page or simply by posting a comment - or write a blog post about it.

Although this social network website was started by Boston set dancers, it is open to everyone. Set dancers are known to travel great distances for special set dancing events. It's also nice to know about dancing available in other locations as we travel for our other purposes.

If you have a group and want to post information about it, this social networking website is a handy tool to get the word out.
